2021 Audi Q5 Sportback revealed

Audi continues the coupe equipment of its SUV range with its most recent arrival

Audi has expanded its ever-expanding range by introducing the “CoupĂ©” sibling gift Q5 SUV, the 2021 Audi Q5 Sportback.

The unveiling of the sportier variant comes around three months after Audi's debut Q5 revisedThis makes it the third Audi SUV to receive a Sportback coupé-style makeover (after the Q3 and e-tron).

The Q5 Sportback, which will be available in Australia in late 2021, will come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel TDI engine with 150 kW and 400 Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

A mild hybrid system has also been added to improve efficiency.

This first engine option will later be joined by an entry-level version of the TDI diesel engine with 120 kW, which only supplies the front wheels with power.

A 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine with 210 kW and two 2.0-liter four-cylinder TFSI petrol engines with 150 kW or 195 kW also follow.

All Q5 Sportback models are entry-level all-wheel drive handlebars with 120 kW TDI, and each variant is equipped with an automatic transmission - no manuals are offered.

Buyers can choose between the standard steel spring suspension from Audi or a tightly tuned sports suspension. An adaptive air suspension is available as an option, with which the ride height can be adjusted over a range of 60 mm.

Equipped with the 150 kW 2.0-liter TDI engine, the Q5 Sportback can also pull up to 2.4 tons.

According to Audi, plug-in hybrid drives are also available for two performance variants as well as for an SQ5 Sportback performance variant.

A version of the Q5 Sportback with a longer wheelbase will also only be available in China, adding 88 mm to the 2.82 m wheelbase of the existing model.

Revealed in the all-new Ultra Blue hue, the Sportback retains some of the original elements of its SUV predecessor, including the headlights and infotainment operating system, but adds a host of unique features to both the interior and exterior.

To start with, the Sportback is given a new honeycomb grille that is more reminiscent of the RS vehicles from Audi, as well as new air inlets at the front, the option of 21-inch Sportback-specific wheels and a completely new shoulder line from the B-pillar.

At the rear, the OLED taillights have been added to complement a redesigned tailgate with a subtle spoiler.

The Sportback extends the length of the Q5 SUV by 7 mm and increases the overall length to 4.69 meters. However, the overall height and width are the same between the SUV and Sportback variants.

The roofline has lost 1-2 cm of rear headroom, but the rear legroom remains unchanged compared to the Q5.

The trunk has a capacity of 510 liters, which can be increased to 1480 liters with the rear seats folded down.

In the interior, the cabin offers an ambient light package as well as an optional rear seat that can be adjusted to both the incline and position.

The 10.3-inch infotainment system has a new split-screen function and a revised version of the Q5 SUV's menu.

There is also a second digital 12.3-inch driver display or “virtual cockpit” and a head-up display.

Together with Ultra Blue, the Q5 Sportback will be available in 11 different paint finishes and with 21 different wheel designs. Audi assumes that the new model will appeal to younger buyers.

More Australian pricing and specification details for the Audi Q5 Sportback 2021 will be announced closer to a local launch.
